A Month on The Beach
It was January, we had towed our 25 ft. Travel Trailer from the mountain village of Ajijic, Lake Chapala,
Mexico, to the RV Park in LaPenita de Jaltemba, on the Pacific coast of Mexico, for a month on the
beach, as part of our three-year Adventure in Mexico.
Our First Day at the RV Park
Today is our first day at LaPenita RV park, 1.5 hours north of Puerto Vallarta. We would be here for the
next thirty days.
The view was the Pacific Ocean stretches to the horizon where it blends with the sky. Frigate birds fly
overhead or skim the surface of the water, white caps form on the incoming Pacific waves. A breeze
moving through the palms and giant ferns bringing you the sweet scent of life and decay of the tropical
The waves rolling in from the Pacific looked both fun and intimidating. People are swimming one
hundred meters out with an incoming tide.
The RV Park has a Palapa high on the south-western headland overlooking the park and the ocean.
From here you can see the miles of pristine sandy beaches, just waiting for you to swim off, walk on and
The notice board at the office provides information about the many activities organized by both the park
and individuals that you can take part in. As we relaxed drinking coffee outside our Travel Trailer, a group of four-wheel-drive, off-road vehicles left the campground.
They were laden with luggage on apparently a well-organized drive.
Antonio, who manages the day to day running of the park, told me later, “The four-wheel drive group is
very active in this park, they organize lots of drives. Today they are off on a three-day round-trip drive
to deliver blankets and food supplies to the people in the mountains whose homes were hit by the
Hurricane. Two weeks back they played Santa Clause delivering food and toys to needy families.”
Antonio stopped to answer the phone, then added, “Daily Pool Volley Ball is popular, and there are
many other group and happy hour gatherings. There are restaurants and shopping, walking distance
away in LaPenita itself, and we have food, gas and laundry service coming to the park. Taxi is a
continent way of getting into the town its only 40 Pesos each way.”

M&L Tip for the Week.
Full-timers or Snowbirds can work from an RV. I did for many years. However,
you do need to be flexible and it is most important that both you and your partner, if you have one,
appreciate the value of the work. To work from an RV, you need active encouragement not tolerance.
